In the process of budgeting for next year, administration was made aware that the District will no longer be centrally funding key positions at Reed in 2023-24.  Here is the tentative list of staff positions and student initiatives that may not have funding and, in fact, may not exist next year:

• Custodian (1)
• 6th Grade Bridge Program
• Academy-Specific Funding

In an effort to retain these positions and programs, "Team Reed", PTSA, FoR and FIHP is asking for your help.  We are re-launching the Friends of Reed Annual Giving Campaign, and specifically asking families who are able, but haven't yet made a donation, to consider one now.

The National Junior Honor Society will hold a final Information Meeting (for 6th & 7th graders) on Wednesday, March 15 at 7:40 am in Room 150 to learn more about joining NJHS. Attendance is NOT mandatory, but it is very helpful. The deadline to submit an application to join the National Junior Honor Society is Monday, March 20 at 3:15 pm. Questions? The 7th/8th Grade Instrumental Concert is happening this Thursday, March 16 at 6:30 pm. Pizza and bake sale start at 5:30, and doors open at 6:15. $6 suggested ticket donation. Cash only. Come out and support the 7th/8th grade Concert Band, String Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Chamber Orchestra, and Jazz Band A & B!

Donate/volunteer - Support the program by signing up to volunteer here or donating bake sale items (cupcakes, cookies, chips, bottled water, sparkling water, Gatorade). Donations can be dropped off by students to the music room before school on Thursday or upon arrival at the concert. 

Reed’s 2nd Annual Student Short Film Festival, The Matties (hosted by the MAT Academy and PTSA) will happen on Friday, March 17—St. Patrick's Day! Doors open at 5:30, with screenings starting at 6:00 pm. Bring the whole family for a night to remember as we enjoy the creative talents of our student filmmakers – with three indoor screening areas, one for each grade. The Awards Ceremony will be held from 8:00 to 8:30 in the auditorium to announce the grade-level winners and overall “Best of Fest”. This is a CASH ONLY event, so please come prepared!

Suggested donation is $5. No family will be denied entry due to inability to pay. 

Pizza, snacks, treats, drinks, and merchandise will be available for purchase. There are also amazing raffle baskets with incredible prizes to win. Raffle tickets will be sold Friday for $2 each, or 3 for $5, or $1 each for 10 or more.

Wear green in honor of St. Patrick's Day on Friday, March 17. All clothing must be school appropriate. No pajamas.

On Saturday, March 18 from 8:00 am-12:00 pm, come help clean up and prune the rose garden area, move mulch and do maintenance on the vegetable garden. Students must be supervised by their parents at all times. This is a great way for students to earn NJHS hours and for families to enjoy some quality time together. 8th Grade Families...

Learn how to help your student prepare for college at the Region North Spring College Conference. It will be held on March 18 at Valley College from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Students may attend with their families. See flyer for details.

Reed will provide field trip buses for 8th grade students whose parents registered and submitted their field trip forms by 3/1.

The PTSA Reflections Gala is happening on Saturday, March 18 from 11:00 am - 12 pm with the Awards Ceremony at 12:00 noon at the North Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce (9015 Wilbur Ave., Northridge, CA 91324). 12 out of 26 Reed MS Reflections entries moved on to judging at the 31st District PTSA. Those 12 will be on display from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm, and those moving on to State will be acknowledged at the awards ceremony at noon.  

Join us on Thursday, March 23 from 3:15-6:00 pm at Reed for our annual Battle of the Books competition. Groups of 4-6 students have been reading 20 books to prepare for this trivia competition. The four top performing groups will move on to a Regional Battle at Reed on April 29 from 9:00-1:00 pm.

Region North’s Kindness Campaign March choice board is here! Many of the lessons, resources and activities this month focus on developing ‘deep kindness’ by way of empathy and perspective taking.
