REED MS PTSA

Reed Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) is the heart of Reed.

Every student is valuable! Our volunteer run, membership based, donation-funded 501(c)3 nonprofit association provides a way to support every student at Reed MS in a meaningful way -- both on our Reed campus across every grade level and academy, as well as through the efforts of National PTA, the largest volunteer child advocacy organization in the country.

WHAT DO WE DO?

PTSA encourages student achievement and fosters collaboration and engagement between students, school staff, and families through campus events and programs. Our FUNdraising allows us to provide financial support for school-wide events, programs and academy enrichment, the school library, clubs, positive behavioral supports, staff appreciation, and more!

Everyone is welcome to participate in the events and activities we host on campus throughout the school year!! That being said, we'd love for everyone to become an "official" member, donate, and volunteer to support our efforts!

Our membership goal is to reach 600 members!

JOIN / RENEW ONLINE  or by JOIN BY CASH/CHECK

All PTSA memberships are good for the current school year.

HOW & WHY DO WE FUNDRAISE?

PTSA raises funds through 100% tax deductible donations, membership dues, and fundraising events.  With the help of our volunteers and contributions like yours, PTSA aims to provide enrichment opportunities and other key supports for our Reed families, students, and staff.

ACADEMY ENRICHMENT: By giving each academy the opportunity to take ownership and leadership of their own school-wide fundraiser, we instill a sense of pride in your academy while also staying true to our "Team Reed" mentality: we do this for each other! School-wide events like Humanities Talent Show, Matties Film Festival, Environmental Science Earth Day Walk-a-thon, Global Leadership Multicultural Fair, and STEAM day help raise funds for the benefit of ALL Reed students.  Funds raised from these events are pooled and then distributed between all the academies based on enrollment to support enrichment related to their individualized program.

REED LIBRARY SUPPORT: Book Fair raises funds to help keep our Reed library fresh and current!

TEACHER/STAFF APPRECIATION: See's Candy Fundraiser enables us to celebrate our teachers and staff year-round and during Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week.

SO MUCH MORE: Donations and membership dues, as well as our candy/snack sales and Amazon Smile help support key programs for our students and families like Battle of the Books, parent meetups, school clubs, positive behavioral supports, Reflections Arts program, and everything else PTSA does!!

PTSA MYTHS VS. FACTS

WHY JOIN A PTSA IN MIDDLE SCHOOL?

PTSA provides a way to support Reed students and families in meaningful ways. Our mission is to positively impact the lives of all children and families.

When you join the Reed MS PTSA, you join a community that encourages student achievement and believes in building partnerships between families and school. We know the transition to Middle school can be challenging, and Reed PTSA aims to bring fun opportunities for students and families to connect and get the support they need to have a great educational and social-emotional experience at Reed.

Reed PTSA invites you to join us in making a difference in the education and quality of life for not only your child, but also for all children across the country.

Kids do not have the same power adults do, which is why it's so important that you have a voice for California kids! Reed PTSA is a unit of the larger state & national PTA. By joining, you amplify your voice with the oldest and largest child advocacy organization in United States— and have input in major legislative and policy issues affecting children throughout the state. The organization fights for full funding, quality teachers, and the capabilities necessary for schools to thrive.  Increasing our membership, even by one, makes it possible to provide important educational resources, speak up on important issues and create a stronger school community to ensure that our students, teachers and community continue to thrive.

*A portion of the annual membership dues covers the cost of individual registration with council, district, state and national PTSA organizations to support training, oversight, and advocacy efforts with the California Legislature and Washington DC to insure the safety and education of our children. The remainder of the dues (plus ALL voluntary donations and fundraising) are used to support programming for Reed students and families.

WHO CAN JOIN REED PTSA?

Any human, regardless of where you live, can join Reed MS PTSA

PTSA is open to parents, caregivers, guardians, students, teachers, administrators, staff, friends, family members, and the community at large! (Pets, businesses, and governments cannot, because they are not "humans.")

DO I HAVE TO DO ANYTHING IF I BECOME A MEMBER?

Volunteering and meetings are NOT required for those who join.

The only thing required of you to be a member of PTSA is to pay the annual membership dues. Beyond that, the level of involvement is up to you. There is no wrong or right way to PTSA. But if you CAN help from time to time, you'll set a fine example for our students.
